A Theology of the New Testament, Revised Edition

This book is one of the five most significant books in my life. It is hard to estimate how much of what I believe, and how I think, comes from these pages. It is really that good.
I had Dr. Ladd as a professor in seminary. The first day of class he said that he would not lecture on the textbook; it would be a waste of our time. Rather, we were to come witih questions. We came the next day and Dr.Ladd said, "Any questions?" He waited 5 seconds and said, "Class dismissed." We never came to class again without our questions ready.
It is an amazing book. It covers the basic teachings of the different writers of the New Testament. It is very biblical, and it is fair. It helps you pull everything together in terms of what you believe and how you approach life. If Dr.Ladd was anything, we was fair (and that really mattered to him). In the debate with different theologies, people often said he could represent their position better than anyone. I fact, his first lecture was on why the title of the book began with "A" and not "The." This was his understandig of the biblical data and he wanted to be fair.
It also is beautifully written. Dr. Ladd shared in class how it was hard for him to write clearly, and so he labored at it, every word, over and over again. If you want to learn to write, read this book.
Do yourself a favor and read this book from cover to cover, chew it, digest it, live it.
