Basics of Biblical Greek: Grammar

Disclaimer: I wrote this text. This is the main work of my life. When I wrote it, it was unlike any other text out there. My dad told me later that he was concerned it would ever sell; so much of my personality comes through the pages. But that was intentional, and I am thankful that for this one time my dad was not exactly right. It has become the standard English-Greek textbook in the English speaking world, and for that I am thankful.
There are two tracks through the text. My preferred method was to cover all the nouns and then move into the verbal system. Not switching back and forth makes the language so much easier. But some teachers want to introduce verbs earlier, and so for them there is track two. You only shift back and forth between nouns and verbs twice, and the system works well.
There are lots of features to this book that people enjoy:
- There is much to encourage students, including exegetical insights in each chapter that illustrate how the material in that chapter can be used;
- Much emphasis on English grammar before venturing into Greek grammar;
- Lots of examples to illustrate the grammar;
- Reduced memorization (yeh!).
The textbook comes with a CD-ROM with all kind of tools to help you learn Greek, including summary lectures of each chapter, software, mnemonic devices, etc. If you want to hear Bill cover ever chapter in the textbook, you can also purchase those lectures from www.teknia.com.
There are many Greek aids that have been built around this textbook. Keep clicking through this reading list and you will see them.

This is an integrated approach that makes learning Greek a natural process and helps students see from the beginning how understanding Greek will help them understand the New Testament. Numerous changes have been made as a result of feedback from professors. For example, a chapter on clauses has been added at the end of the book. The CD-ROM is now easier to use and contains even more information. The workbook has been significantly rewritten.
The CD-ROM with helpful interactive aids such as poems, songs, diagrams, mnemonic devices, and other vocabulary-building tools is now even better. It is easier to navigate and now includes short audio summary lectures (7-9 minutes) for every chapter. Students will come to class more prepared when they listen to the summary lectures ahead of time. |
