I have this set later in the list because I wanted to keep the Greek works together. If you want in-depth meanings of Hebrew words, this is the only place for you to go. End of discussion. Like it's Greek counterpart, the discussions are complete; but if you are looking for a little more than Mounce's Dictionary, this is the place to go.

Publisher's description

21400: New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology & Exegesis 5 Volumes This set (abbreviated NIDOTTE) is the Old Testament counterpart to the New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology (NIDNTT) by Colin Brown, ed. NIDOTTE contains more than 3,000 entries, written by over 200 scholars from 24 countries and more than 100 academic institutes.

The set includes:

  • A 200-page Guide to Old Testament Theology and Exegesis (Vol. 1)
  • The Lexical Dictionary (Vol. 1-4)
  • The Topical Dictionary (Vol. 4)
  • Index (Vol. 5)

Organization:
The words are listed alphabetically in the order of the Hebrew alphabet. The main numbering system used is the Goodrick & Kohlenberger numbers based on the NIV. There is a conversion chart in the index volume that converts Strong's numbers to the Goodrick &Kohlenberger numbers. Then the lexical forms are given in Hebrew. Followed by the usage of the word in Ancient Near East documents, the Old Testament, and Post-Biblical documents. All the Hebrew words are transliterated when referred to in the articles. Topical Dictionary (Vol. 4) includes articles on the theology of each book of the Old Testament and on Biblical concepts, people, places, events, and literary pieces.

The last volume (Vol. 5) includes an index of Hebrew transliterations, index of English words and their likely Hebrew translations, index of Hebrew words, Scripture index,Subject index, and Strong's number conversion index.
