Bob Mounce is a retired college president and author of a dozen or so commentaries on New Testament books. In his 86 years he has served in many capacities all the way from radio missionary work in Central America to academic dean of a state university. His books have been translated into various languages including Chinese, Greek, Korean, and Serbo-Croation. Since retirement in 1987 Bob has been involved primarily in Bible translation. He served on the original committee that established the translation philosophy of the NIV, did research for the TNIV, spent several years working on the NLT and more recently served as Assist. NT Chair of the ESV. His basic desire is that the Scriptures, written in ancient languages and reflecting a non-Western culture, be translated in such a way that today's reader will understand what God is actually saying in his Word. Bob has been reading and working in biblical Greek for over a half century. He lives with his wife Jean in Pensacola, FL where 62 years ago he earned his wings as a Navy pilot. Their five children are scattered around the United States but thanks to the digital age are never far away. Disclaimer: I am the associate chair of the New Testament translation committee on the ESV Bible. You may want to take this into consideration as you read my blog. |
